The Center for Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame will be presenting a concert in conjunction with five artists from Falling Mountain celebrating the life, music, and culture of Appalachia on Sunday, September 23 at 7 PM in Washington Hall.

The concert, titled "Songs & Strings: A Celebration of Music in Appalachia" is part of the Center's 25th anniversary weekend. The Center mission facilitates community-based learning, research and service, where "learning becomes service to justice".

Falling Mountain Music has long been a voice of social concern with a particular nod to its neighbors in the Appalachian region. Our Moving Mountains: Voices of Appalachia Rise Up Against Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining CD has long been one of the best selling titles in our catalog, highlighting songs and stories of the struggles of longtime coalfields residents in southern West Virginia and East Kentucky to keep their homes and communities on the map.

Our ongoing "Songs & Strings" touring project brings together diverse artists from our label in a collaborative concert setting that showcases their common musical threads as well as differences. The program includes the nationally acclaimed Appalachian dulcimer legend and singer Madeline MacNeil, award winning singer-songwriter Andrew McKnight, eclectic folk and roots duo wild carrot, original and traditional Appalachian/Celtic duo Keith and Joan Pitzer, and acclaimed fingerstyle guitarist Michael DeLalla.

The concert is open to the public as well as students of Notre Dame. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the LaFortune Box Office. Call 574-631-8128 for more information, or visit the Center's website at centerforsocialconcerns.nd.edu.
