A Flood of New Projects Flowing from Falling Mountain

As summer of 2008 wanes, we are excited at the prospect of eight new titles added to the FMM catalog by early 09, spanning the acoustic music spectrum in typically eclectic and diverse Falling Mountain style. 2008 launched with singer/songwriters Keith & Joan Pitzer delivering another collection of original and traditional material deeply rooted in their West Virginia lives, noting the changing world and their relationship to it with their usual musical grace on Gathering Stones. Andrew McKnight kicked off 2008 with his strong new release Something Worth Standing For, reaching out not only to the legendary ghosts of roots music with fresh interpretations of The Carter Family and Robert Johnson, but also reawakening his own blues and rock roots. The ever eclectic wild carrot's latest, I've Heard That Song Before, finds them teaming up with top New York players from the traditional jazz world and delving deep into the catalog of old favorites from the 20's, 30's and 40's with fresh and fun updates.

And now with those three releases to prime the pump, Falling Mountain newcomer Candice Mowbray debuts with a collection of solos for classical guitar, adding to our already impressive array of guitarists. Legendary dulcimist and singer Madeline MacNeil's new Christmas collection will arrive in the coming weeks, while longtime Falling Mountaineer Tabby Finch, together with newcomer Sam Morgan (of Hickory Wind fame), are currently wrapping up their new eclectic project Mucho Gusto with Falling Mountain founder Michael DeLalla producing. Mariachi meets Cajun meets Celtic? Hear for yourself, also due around the holidays.

Finally, as 2009 dawns, so too will the long-awaited release by Debra Cowan, titled Fond Desire Farewell and produced by former Fairport Convention drummer Dave Mattacks. Wrapping up this flood of a truly inspiring and varied list of new titles will be the followup to the best-selling recording in the Falling Mountain catalog, Moving Mountains. This one promises to please with appearances by some of the best known voices in music lending their talents to stopping the devastating practice of mountaintop removal coal mining in Appalachia. We are honored to play a part as we continue our mission of Making Music Matter.
