Collaborations have been a big part of the Falling Mountain story since our founding in 1991. Most of our recordings feature artists from inside and outside of our roster joining creative forces in studio settings as well as occasionally on stage in our "Songs & Strings" shows. So it should come as no surprise that several of our artists are including larger performing entities in their offerings.
Buoyed by the enjoyment of working together on their 2003 release Hope, Pam Temple and Spencer Funk of wild carrot are often performing in a quartet with Brandt Smith and Brenda Wolfersberger, adding dobro, banjo and bass to their already formidable instrumental arsenal. The Roots Band perform in Studio 89 at 89.7FM WNKU on Monday August 18th for a live radio show and TV filming in front of a studio audience, simulcast online at 9pm EST on www.wnku.org. The concert will be broadcast on KET TV later this year. Watch for the video here at around the end of August. Singer/songwriter Andrew McKnight, in addition to his frequent western tours with upright bassist Sean Kelly, now has a new quartet Beyond Borders, with longtime collaborator and original Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member Les Thompson on banjo and upright bass, his wife and Louisiana native Stephanie Thompson on harmony vocals, bass, acoustic guitar and percussion, and award-winning northern Virginia singer and songwriter Lisa Taylor handling drums. Blending their four voices, Andrew's acoustic and electric guitars and the energy of drums has produced some excellent and often unexpected results, and they are already filling a nice schedule of regional concerts in addition to Andrew's busy solo tour itinerary. Meanwhile, multi-instrumentalist Tabby Finch has been teaming up with Sam Morgan, renowned for his work with Hickory Wind in the 70s, to cross a wide range of cultural boundaries with Mucho Gusto. The debut CD is planned for a late 08 release. |
