Singer/songwriters Andrew McKnight and Keith & Joan Pitzer performed together at the Capitol Center in Charleston WV on March 17th as the final event of Mountain Justice Spring Break Week, a student call-to-action advocacy week to help stop the destruction of southern and central Appalachia's landscape by mountaintop removal coal mining. The Falling Mountaineers were joined by fellow musicians Jen Osha, Elaine Purkey and Kate Long as well as longtime coalfields activist and resident Larry Gibson. Each of the artists has a song on the Moving Mountains: Voices of Appalachia Rise Up Against Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining CD. Jen Osha recently announced plans for a second CD. The concert was recorded by sound crew members of the Mountain Stage internationally syndicated radio show, and some of the performance may be part of the planned recording. |
